How Much Time Should a Man Spend on His Beard, Daily?

A lot of guys commit to daily beard care routines, although each man’s exact routine is different. One question that a lot of our bearded customers ask us is: "How much time should I spend on my beard care routine each day?"  Well, today, we’ll be answering that question in full detail!

What’s Involved in a Daily Beard Care Routine?

Before we get into how long it should take to maintain your beard care routine, let’s first note that each guy follows their own routine based on the unique needs of their beard. Therefore, there’s no definite answer in terms of how long the entire routine should take. For instance, guys with longer beards will spend a longer period of time because they simply have more surface area to work with.  Additionally, some guys use, for example, mustache wax, while some guys don’t have any mustache to apply a product to. This is why we can’t say that there’s a single ideal length of time when it comes to your daily beard regimen.

How Much Time Each Step Should Take

What we can say, however, is that with each step of a daily beard care routine, there is an ideal length of time to take when executing it.  Let’s start with beard wash. When cleansing your beard, you want to spend a good minute massaging that cleanser in, as this will ensure that you really break up that dirt and oil. Then, it should take 30 to 60 seconds to rinse it out, depending on the length of your beard.

Next, it’s time to apply your beard oil.  Again, this should take at least one minute, as this will ensure that you really get that oil dispersed evenly throughout not just your facial hair, but your skin. The same rule applies to additional products like beard balms, beard butters, mustache waxes and so on.

Then, there’s the grooming. Whether you’re using a brush or a comb to groom your beard each day, you want to make sure that you go about this step as thoroughly as possible. You also don’t want to rush it, as brushing or combing your beard too quickly can cause you to aggressively tug at knots, which can wreak havoc on your facial hair follicles.

Finally, some guys apply products again in the evening because their beard has specific needs. So, if that’s the case for you, it will definitely mean that you spend more time on your beard care routine each day than other guys.

Final Bearded Thoughts

How long you should spend on your beard care routine depends on a number of factors, as you can see. The bottom line is that each step should be done properly and thoroughly, meaning that you should never rush through a part of your routine and end up not making the most of what that particular step can offer.
