3 Cool Beard Care Tips for Men with Curly Beards
Share
Do you have a naturally curly beard? Curly beards are less common than straight beards, so consider yourself lucky to be so unique. Many men are embarrassed about their curly beards at first, simply because they look different from everyone else’s. But, it’s good to learn to embrace those curls as they actually are something to be proud of.
As you may know, curly hair requires a bit more care than straight hair. That’s because curly hair needs more moisture, and also because it requires a bit more styling to keep those curls nice and set.
We’re gonna offer some advice that will help you make the most of your curly facial hair.
Tip #1: Moisture Really is Everything
As we said earlier, curly hair is more prone to dryness than straight hair. That’s because moisture comes from the follicles and works its way down. The follicles produce a natural oil called sebum that protects and hydrates each strand. Now, if your hair is straight, that sebum easily slides down to the ends of the hair. But, if your hair is curly, the sebum can have a hard time getting to those ends because of the pattern of your hair.
If you want those curls to look defined, you absolutely need to keep them as moisturized as possible. When naturally curly hair becomes dry and dehydrated, it starts to look frizzy, flat, dull and damaged, and those curls lose their shape. So, make a point to use more moisturizing products than most guys. Use a hydrating beard oil twice each day and find a high-quality beard conditioner that can boost that hydration level every time you wash your beard.
Tip #2: Only Comb Your Beard When It’s Wet to Keep Those Curls Defined
Many bearded men carry a beard comb around with them and run it through their facial hair a few times each day to keep things neat and clean. Unfortunately, our curly-haired friends need to be a bit careful when it comes to combing and brushing their beards. The friction that results from combing and brushing can lead to frizz, and the action actually undoes those curls.
If you can, only comb your beard when it’s still wet. This way, when it dries, those curls will be perfectly intact. Opt for a wide-tooth comb as this will help define your curls rather than breaking them up.
Tip #3: Learn the Scrunching Technique to Maximize Those Glorious Curls
Maybe when you were in high school, you watched girls scrunch mousse into their hair to create defined, spiraling curls. Well, that scrunching technique can actually help make your beard look better than ever before. Scrunching forces the curls to become defined and stay that way.
When you apply a styling product like a beard balm, rather than combing it through your facial hair with your fingers, scrunch it in. This means squeezing the beard inward, one section at a time. Additionally, when you’re drying your beard after washing it, rather than rubbing a towel all over that facial hair, use a t-shirt or a microfiber cloth to scrunch out excess moisture. Believe it or not, it will make a huge difference in terms of your curl definition while simultaneously helping you avoid frizz.
Your Beard Will Make You the Envy of Your Friends
Having a curly beard is something that makes you unique, which is why you should do everything possible to enhance it. These tips will help you maintain those luscious curls so that your beard looks better than ever before on a daily basis.
